Seadog Computers
Unlike other computers sold for use on board small boats our product is
designed to run on a 12 volt (or 24 volt to order) supply. This means that
mains voltages are not required on board and there is no need for an inverter
or shore supply.
Rather than forcing
an entire solution, which may not suit all, we have taken the decision to ask
our customers to choose which components would suit them best. However we are always
happy to discuss the requirements and recommend a total package if you prefer.
All systems are based on the ‘Shuttle’ small
format system unit and are equipped with the best quality components. We use
AMD processors as we have found that they offer better value in
price/performance than the equivalent Intel processors. We can however supply
Intel systems on request (please ask for a quote)
Our current ‘standard’ system includes the
following:-

licensed copy of Microsoft Windows XP
- AMD Athlon Barton CPU 2.8 GHz
- Seagate
Barracuda hard-drive 120 Gb
- Sony
combination DVD reader and CD R/W drive (including software to allow
viewing of DVD movies.
- Samsung
memory 512mb (can be increased to 1 Gb at extra
cost)

In
addition to the standard unit we are able to supply and configure a wide range
of other items to complete your onboard computer. The system will work with all
standard PC accessories and components but the following have been specially
selected as useful for an ‘on board’ system. You will need a monitor and a
mouse (or remote control), everything else is optional.
Aluminium Light Metal
Alloy 15-Inch TV/TFT LCD Monitor
This monitor has been
selected because it is constructed from aluminium alloy so is more resistant to damage than other models that are
typically made of plastic and are designed solely for use on a desk. It should
be noted however that they are not ‘marinised’ in any
way and should be firmly fixed in a position where not exposed to seawater or
rain. The monitor is supplied wit a built-in tuner that allows watching of UK
TV channels without the computer being switched on (will need a suitable
aerial).

VGA LCD Screen 7”
Ideal for the smaller vessel, or when the only requirement at the
moment is as a chart-plotter this touch screen monitor is remarkably clear and
bright for it’s size. The touch-screen allows the
SeaDog computer to be used without a mouse or remote control if required. With
the addition of a waterproof case it could even be used in a cockpit.

Flexible Mini Keyboard
This
keyboard is ideal for occasional use on board for the writing of logs, journals
and for emails. It is waterproof and can be washed if needed. When not being
used it can be rolled up or stuffed into any convenient space. Normal
navigation functions on the SeaDog Computer can be accessed using just the
remote control or a mouse or trackball.

Comprehensive suite of applications that Includes
full versions of Word 2002 (word processing), Encarta (encyclopedia), Streets
